Work Package 1 - "Information compilation and proposed technical improvement measures"
Objectives
- Definition of the legal framework in which greenhouse energy supply systems are included.
- Evaluation of the technologies for greenhouse energy supply currently used in Europe.
- Proposing of a set of measures to improve these technologies.
Task 1
In the first task the IAGs and the RTDs together with Bioazul made a literature research on related legislation. The results are summarised in Deliverable 01.
Task 2
In the second task The IAGs and the RTDs reviewed the current state of technologies involved in energy supply of greenhouses. Different structural and technical properties were investigated and their affects on the energy consumption described. Performance indicators, which can provide a first estimation of the efficiency of a greenhouse and enable the owners to compare their own facilities with others, were developed and the energy critical points/factors for different structural elements and technical equipment of a greenhouse were generated. The SMEs, moreover, supported the RTDs of their region with their consumption data and their state of construction and technical equipment. Thus, to create a database with real consumption data which can give an impression on the state of the greenhouse efficiency. This data can later be used for different purposes like comparison of similar greenhouses, development of reference greenhouses for different climate regions, evaluation of performance indicators, control of implemented energy saving measures, etc.. The results of the above explained work are integrated into the Deliverable 02 and Deliverable 03. Deliverable 02 is focusing on the initial energy consumption data of the participating greenhouse growers, Deliverable 03 is focusing on the energy systems and their critical points as well as the energy performance indicators for greenhouses. Deliverable 02 is restricted to the consortium, because of company related data which is provided there. Deliverable 03 is public and can be downloaded here.
Additionally a review of related research projects was performed and a description of those projects and the plan of communication and interexchange was written in a report.
Task 3
In task 3 ttz -together with the IAGs and SMEs- was in charge of the development of a report which provides information about the repercussions of the legal situation and the current state of technology. This task is close to the final version of the report. Beside the report a database was developed which can be used to extract the required legislation by e.g. country and/or subject.
Task 4
Task 4 is dealing with measures for technical improvement of greenhouses. The RTDs with input of the SME experts Bioazul, Farm Energy Centre and Agrocomponentes will propose several sets of measures to improve the energy efficiency of greenhouses. The proposed measures will be categorised in
- low- or non-investment measures, and
- medium-investment measures.
This task is still in progress. It is aimed to finish the work with the delivery of the measures in Deliverable D04 in November 2006.
