UNIVERSIDAD DE ALMERIA (UAL) – Spain

UAL is a public university created by the Parliament of Andalusia (Spain) in July 1993 with the aim of being an “instrument of social change, that contributes to the economical, cultural and scientific development of the society of Almería, providing the adequate professionals and teachings that best responds to its historical, economical, and cultural profile”.

The starting point of the present University of Almería was an University College that in 1989 was shaped into an University Campus dependant of the University of Granada. The law of creation of Almería University established a transitory period (1993-1997), after it, the University of Almería obtained its complete autonomy. The Department of Rural Engineering is the largest one in the university. It provides the Spanish horticultural sector with high qualified engineers. The department has two main research groups closely linked, one specialised in greenhouse climate control and the other in greenhouse climate modelling and simulation.

Role in the project

UAL will make the information compilation in the south of Europe and  will evaluate the ventilation and cooling techniques currently in use in southern European greenhouses. They will contribute with  their experience in climate simulation to the definition of the reference greenhouses needed for the development of the energy auditing software.
