Hevi-Kolmio Oy - Finland

established in 1987, is located in Honkajoki municipality in West Finland. The turnover of the company is about 2,5 M€ (2003). The growing area in the greenhouses is 15 000 m2, and the growing takes place year-round. Artificial lighting is needed in growing. The main product is cucumber, and the volume is about 1 500 000 kg/a. The number of employees is near 20. Heating of the greenhouses is provided by two gas fired (propane) boilers (1,5 MW and 1,0 MW). In addition, waste heat (3700 MWh/a) from a near located factory is utilized in greenhouse heating. Electricity consumption is about 15. 000 MWh/a, and so electricity is a heating source.
